Bringing the Thames together to facilitate knowledge exchange and unite skill sets
The River Thames Alliance was launched in 2003 with the aim of providing a holistic and overarching knowledge centre to living and working on the River Thames. With members from the source to the tideway, it was (and continues to be) the only organisation committed solely to the River Thames, its environment and its use.
Working closely with the Environment Agency and other Local Authorities, the River Thames Alliance delivered its first “Waterways Plan” in 2005. This iteration focused on the sustainability of the Thames and the actions therein were completed in 2011.
Following several years of consultation with stakeholders, the second “Waterways Plan” was agreed by our members in 2015. This plan, spanning 6 years, created 52 action points covering 7 spheres of influence.
Delivered by a volunteer management team and supported by specialist advisors from the Environment Agency and the Canal and River Trust, The River Thames Alliance seeks to harmonise river use and promote a brighter future for all.
